On 3 December 2021, the Cook Islands transmitted to the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf, in accordance with article 76, paragraph 8, of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, information on the limits of the continental shelf beyond 200 nautical miles from the baselines from which the breadth of its territorial sea is measured concerning the Manihiki Plateau.

It is noted that the Convention entered into force for the Cook Islands on 17 March 1995. The Cook Islands made its original submission to the Commission on 16 April 2009. On 19 August 2016, the Commission approved the "Recommendations of the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf in regard to the Submission made by the Cook Islands in respect of the Manihiki Plateau on 16 April 2009". Pursuant to section V, paragraph 11 (3) of Annex III to the Rules of Procedures of the Commission (CLCS/40/Rev.1), the Summary of the Recommendations was made public.

In accordance with the Rules of Procedure of the Commission, a communication is being circulated to all Member States of the United Nations, as well as States Parties to the Convention, in order to make public the executive summary of the revised submission, including all charts and coordinates contained in that summary.

The consideration of the revised submission made by the Cook Islands will be included in the provisional agenda of the fifty-fifth session of the Commission prepared in accordance with rule 5 and paragraph 2 of annex III to the Rules of Procedure of the Commission.

Upon completion of the consideration of the submission, the Commission shall make recommendations pursuant to article 76 of the Convention.
