On 22 April 2022, the Federated States of Micronesia submitted to the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf, in accordance with Article 76, paragraph 8, of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, information on the limits of the continental shelf beyond 200 nautical miles from the baselines from which the breadth of the territorial sea is measured in respect of the Area North of Yap.
The Convention entered into force for the Federated States of Micronesia on 16 November 1994.
According to the submitting State, this is a partial submission.
In accordance with the Rules of Procedure of the Commission, a communication is being circulated to all Member States of the United Nations, including States Parties to the Convention, in order to make public the executive summary of the submission, including all charts and lists of geographical coordinates of points contained in that summary.
The consideration of the submission will be included in the provisional agenda of the fifty-seventh session of the Commission scheduled to be held in New York between January and March 2023 (the exact dates will be determined by the General Assembly in December 2022 through its annual resolution on oceans and the law of the sea).
Upon completion of the consideration of the submission, the Commission will make recommendations pursuant to Article 76 of the Convention.
