Organized civil society for better governance of the defence sector in Mali

An UNDEF-supported project in Mali works to fight corruption in the defence sector by building civil society’s ability to advocate for accountability and transparency. The project established a Civil Society Forum in early 2019 with organizations well-positioned to advocate for anti-corruption reforms in the defence sector, securing strong commitment from almost 30 core human rights and women’s groups, traditional authorities and trade unions. This lays the foundations for a wide-reaching advocacy campaign and for a clear channel of communication between national civil society and the government on defence and security reform. The project is implemented by Transparency International, Mali. The Forum was covered widely in the media, including on MINUSMA Radio Mikado and Bamada.
