NGO Participation

Participation in the CSW Preparatory Committee and the Special Session:
Who Can Attend?

  • NGOs which were accredited to the Fourth World Conference on Women.

  • NGOs in consultative status with the Economic and Social Council.

    Accreditation of NGOs that are neither are in consultative status with the Economic and Social Council nor were accredited to the Fourth World Conference on Women.

    • Participation in the Special Session
      Provided by the UN Division for the Advancement of Women (DAW), which is the Secretariat for the Special Session. Includes information on which NGOs can attend Beijing +5, reserving rooms for NGO activities, and contact information for relevant NGO committees.

    • Participation during the CSW 44th Session/PrepCom
      The CSW 44th Session is now completed.
      Participation guidelines provided by DAW. The Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is the Preparatory Committee for the Special Session. The Commission met for the third time as preparatory committee in conjunction with its 44th regular session from 28 February - 17 March 2000.

    • Gender on the Agenda: A Guide to Participating in Beijing +5
      Published by UNIFEM and the Non-Governmental Liaison Service (NGLS): a detailed guide explaining the focus of Beijing +5, the actors involved, and how NGOs can influence the outcome of the process.

    • WomenAction 2000
      An NGO network working to enable NGOs to participate actively in the Beijing +5 review process. The website includes instructions on getting involved, links to regional information, a calendar and resources. A special section focuses on Section J of the Platform for Action: Women and the Media.
