On 6 April, the United Nations Postal Administration (UNPA) celebrated the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace with the issuance of six stamps and three souvenir sheets.

The United Nations has long recognized the power and universality of sport to unite people of all ages and abilities. The stamps emphasize the importance of the positive role sport and physical activity play in communities and in people’s lives across the globe.

The six stamp designs in USD, Swiss Franc and Euro denominations showcase the following:

  • 73¢               Badminton

  • $1.65            Surfing

  • CHF 1,20      Soccer

  • CHF 1,90      Skateboarding

  • €0,95            Rock climbing

  • €1,20            Volleyball

In addition to the stamps, the souvenir sheets showcase the following:

  •  $1.65           Table tennis

  •  CHF 2,50     Basketball

  •  €2,50           Gymnastics

The three souvenir sheets also feature a statement by Secretary-General António Guterres in English, French, and German.

The text reads in English: "Sport has a unique and transformative power. It transcends borders and unites people, fosters teamwork and resilience, and promotes a spirit of inclusion. Each of these values is essential to the work of the United Nations, and for shaping a more healthy, sustainable and peaceful world for all.”

The artwork on both the stamps and souvenir sheets were illustrated by Bill Butcher of the United Kingdom. The overall design of the stamp series was accomplished by Sergio Baradat of the UN Postal Administration design team.

The stamps will be unveiled at a special event at UN Headquarters in New York on 7 April. For more information about the event, please see: International Day of Sport for Development & Peace 2025.
