Closing remarks: Humanitarian Response in Africa – the Urgency to act

Draft closing remarks by H.E. Mr Mogens Lykketoft, President of the 70th session of the General Assembly, at Humanitarian Response in Africa – the Urgency to act

 8 April 2016

Excellencies, distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen.

Thank you all – Madam moderator, Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission, panellists, member states – for participating  in this meeting.

Thank you also to all who assisted with the preparations especially our colleagues in WFP.

It has been an extremely enriching debate.

And I sincerely hope that having heard the details of major humanitarian crises which a number of Africa countries are facing, we will act now to take tangible steps to assist the affected countries.

And that we will use the World Humanitarian Summit next month and the Summit on refugees and migrants in September, to find both immediate and sustainable solutions to these truly global challenges.

I of course stand ready to support member states however I can to address the global humanitarian and refugee crisis, especially the more forgotten crises in Africa and elsewhere.
