NOON BRIEFING HIGHLIGHTS

Spokesperson for General Assembly President Csaba Kőrösi
United Nations Headquarters, New York

Monday, 3 April 2023

AGEING

President Csaba Kőrösi participated in the 13th session of the open-ended Working Group on Ageing.

This is a General Assembly Working Group for the purpose of strengthening the protection of the human rights of older persons

President Kőrösi told the Working Group that ageing is just another word for living.

Thanks to medical and technological advances, we’re all living longer than ever, but that brings with it new challenges for society.

He said that health-related expenses alone push over 100 million people into extreme poverty every year.

Yet the right to health and access to health services applies to everyone and is an urgent priority for older populations.

Three health-related processes are currently ongoing in the General Assembly – those are Universal Health Coverage; Pandemic prevention, preparedness and response; and the Fight against Tuberculosis. All three refer to planned high-level General Assembly meeting.
