The briefing was chaired by Marie Heuzé, the Director of the United Nations Information Service at Geneva, and was attended by Christiane Berthiaume (World Food Programme), Damien Personnaz (United Nations Children's Fund), Delphine Marie (High Commissioner for Refugees), José-Luis Diaz (Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights), Tom Netter (International Labour Office), Michael Kleiner (office of the Secretary-General's Special Adviser on Sport for Development and Peace), Christine McNab (World Health Organization), and Elizabeth Byrs (Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

Mr. Diaz said that the Special Committee to Investigate Israeli Practices in the Occupied Territories was holding a three-day meeting at the Palais Wilson until 12 June. The Committee generally met in Geneva before going to the region. He recalled that since its creation in 1968, the Committee had never been granted access to the occupied territories. It usually went to the surrounding countries to gather information from Governments, individuals and non-governmental organizations, and then it reported to the General Assembly.
