Joint Government-United Nations Meeting on Myanmar's LDC Graduation - 6 January 2021

Wednesday, 06 January 2021 - 9:00am

On January 6, 2021, the government of Myanmar and the UN Resident Coordinator’s office co-hosted a joint meeting on Myanmar’s LDC Graduation Process.  Issues addressed included the graduation process and preparatory periods, impacts of graduation, vulnerabilities, smooth transition strategy, COVID-19 impacts and areas where support is required.   The high-level of representation of the Myanmar government, which included H.E. U Soe Win, Minister of Planning Finance and Industry, deputy ministers and the Permanent Representatives to the UN in New York and Geneva, sends a positive signal in terms of the country’s commitment to navigating the graduation process and, if recommended for graduation, ensuring a smooth transition out of the LDC category.  The meeting was chaired by the UN Resident coordinator.  Other participants from the UN included UNDESA, UNCTAD, OHRLLS, ESCAP, members of the UN country team and the Resident Coordinator’s Office. Two CDP members participated as observers.
