Launched: WIPO’s Graduation Support Package for LDCs

16 September 2022.

The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has launched a Graduation Support Package for LDCs, to provide targeted IP-related technical assistance to graduating LDCs to assist their preparation for graduation. The initiative has been announced by WIPO Director General, Mr. Daren Tang, at the WIPO’s Assemblies in July 2022.

The Graduation Support Package was developed by WIPO in response to the requests of the LDC Member States, and to the call made in the Doha Programme of Action for enhanced international support measures to graduating and graduated LDCs.

It focuses (i) on assisting graduating LDCs in developing and upgrading their national IP systems to meet IP-related obligations after graduation; and (ii) on enabling them to harness IP and innovation for attaining graduation goals relating to structural transformation, enhancing productive capacity, competitiveness and economic diversification.

The Support Package provides an overall framework with a list of available projects and activities, on the basis of which a country-specific graduation support programme will be developed upon the request of and consultation with a graduating LDC.
