South-South cooperation: Empowering Young Women Scientists from LDCs

Summary

Investing in women and girls in science, technology and innovation (STI) in the LDCs is imperative. UN and countries can support this endeavor through South-South cooperation. In commemoration for the International Women's Day, UNOSSC and ICGEB are organizing an interactive dialogue among senior women representatives from the UN system and young female scientists from LDCs. A special documentary series featuring 5 young women scientists' journey will be premiered after the interactive dialogue.

5 March 2023.  "Three years after the world began its epic struggle against COVID-19, the least developed countries (LDCs) – already grappling with severe structural impediments to sustainable development and highly vulnerable to economic and environmental shocks – have found themselves stranded amid a rising tide of crisis, uncertainty, climate chaos and deep global injustice. 

Fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5) Part II: new plans and partnerships for delivery of the DPoA

The first part of LDC 5 was held at United Nations Headquarters in New York on 17 March 2022. The second part will take place in Doha from 5 to 9 March 2023, and at which world leaders will gather with civil society, the private sector, young people and more to build new plans and partnerships for the delivery of the DPoA over the following decade.
