The Human Rights and Alliance of Civilizations Room, formerly Room XX, is one of the largest conference rooms (754 seats) in the Palace of Nations. It was completely renovated as part of a Spanish donation to the United Nations. The main feature is a ceiling sculpture by Miquel Barceló. It was inaugurated on November 18th, 2008 by the United Nations Secretary-General and the King and Queen of Spain. The location is where the Human Rights Council frequently convenes.

The Human Rights Council is an inter-governmental body within the United Nations system responsible for strengthening the promotion and protection of human rights around the globe and for addressing situations of human rights violations and make recommendations on them. It has the ability to discuss all thematic human rights issues and situations that require its attention throughout the year.
