Within its capacity development programme, the WMO has a Least Developed Countries Programme dedicated to enabling National Meteorological and Hydrological Services in LDCs to enhance both human and institutional capacities to eradicate poverty in order to achieve internationally agreed development goals.
The Global Basic Observing Network (GBON) is an element of the WMO Integrated Global Observing System works to improve the availability of the essential surface-based observational data, which are expected to enhance the quality of weather forecasts, thus helping improve the safety and well-being of citizens throughout the world and bring socioeconomic benefits. The Systematic Observations Financing Facility (SOFF), created by WMO, UNDP and UNEP, facilitates implementation of GBON in LDCs and SIDS, enabling financing of surface-based observations.
