The published version of the 2011 Yearbook of the United Nations is now available in full for reading and research on the Yearbook website! The 2011 Yearbook was previously available online only in its Pre-press form. The posting of this latest volume updates the collection of Yearbooks already available through the site, dating back to the 1946–47 edition.
This sixty-fifth volume of the Yearbook, published in December 2015, provides a record of the activities of the Organization in 2011 and its efforts to maintain international peace and security, foster economic and social development, provide humanitarian assistance, promote and protect human rights and advance international law. In a year marked by a number of large-scale humanitarian crises and the world population’s passing the 7 billion threshold, the 2011 Yearbook chronicles the United Nations response to the situation of more than 800,000 refugees worldwide, the suspension and restoration of Libya’s Human Rights Council membership, the establishment of the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Centre, renewed commitments by the international community on solidarity with least developed countries and on climate change, and the admission of South Sudan as the 193rd Member State.
As with the rest of the collection, the 2011 Yearbook includes all major General Assembly, Security Council and Economic and Social Council resolutions and decisions, placing them in a narrative context of United Nations consideration, deliberation and action. When accessed through the website, the Yearbook is fully searchable through a variety of methods, and results are sortable by date or relevancy.
