Clan Destiny is a five-color lithograph that comes from an edition of 100, published by the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation and printed by Universal Limited Art Editions. The print is signed, dated '96, and numbered by the artist Robert Rauschenberg. The paper is Coventry Rag Vellum hand torn to 43 ½ x 28 ½ inches (110.49 x 72.39 cm.). The plates were cancelled after printing.

Theodore W. Kheel commissioned Robert Rauschenberg to create Clan Destiny to support the 1996 United Nations Conference on Human Settlements (Habitat II – City Summit). The conference was held in Istanbul, Turkiye where representatives from more than ninety nations were in attendance. Clan Destiny hung in the plenary hall of the conference. This conference concluded the United Nations series of world gatherings that began with the Earth Summit in 1992.

There are various kinds of United Nations posters like those that celebrate UN days, years, and decades. Some are designed to announce or commemorate international conferences related to population, environment, women, and children. Others are about special UN campaigns: against apartheid, for free elections, to combat desertification, and to eradicate land mines. Many UN poster illustrations were made by well-known artists. Some were adapted from works of art in the UN collection like the Chagall stained-glass window and the Norman Rockwell mosaic. Other notable contributors of art for UN posters include Graciela Rodo Boulanger, Michel Delacroix, Sonia Delaunay, Osvaldo Guayasmin, Keith Haring, Peter Max, Robert Rauschenberg, and Victor Vasarely. Rauschenberg created around seven United Nations posters on the environment, apartheid, habitat, and protection of cultural property.
