Wintertag (German word for winter’s day) depicts a winter landscape with clouds, hills, and a frozen lake in the background, and evergreen and deciduous trees in the foreground. 

This painting is by Belarusian artist Uladzimir Sulkowski (1950 – 2013), whose landscape paintings captured his favorite places in Belarus.

The President of the Republic of Belarus, Alyaksandr Lukashenka, presented Wintertag to the United Nations on 25 October 1995 to commemorate its 50th anniversary. The painting was accepted on behalf of the United Nations by Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali.
