L’Arbre à Etoiles, UNNY318G, 2015, Monaco
Title

L’Arbre à Etoiles

Gift ID:
UNNY318G

L’Arbre à Etoiles features several motifs, one of a tree symbolizing man and one of stars that represent nations. The roots of the tree are planted firmly into the ground, while its branches reach for the sky. The stars of the nations are situated together in constellation without regard to each star’s individual size.

The painting was executed in 2013 following a design competition, which selected artist Claude Rosticher’s proposal. Rosticher is a prominent artist from Monaco whose works have been exhibited all over the world.

This is the first official gift to the United Nations by the Principality of Monaco. It was presented on the 20th Anniversary of the accession of the Principality of Monaco’s membership to the United Nations. The ceremony was attended by Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon, His Serene Highness Prince Albert II and members of his cabinet, as well as the Permanent Representative of the Principality of Monaco to the United Nations, Her Excellency Ms. Isabelle F. Picco.

Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon said, "I am hopeful that the painting’s message of peaceful and productive international cooperation inspires all those, whether delegates or staff, who labor here to create a more harmonious world."
