This sculpture entitled “New York, New York” was unveiled at a ceremony held at United Nations Headquarters. The sculpture is made of bronze and was created by Artist Arne Olsson (1918 – 2003). The sculpture depicts Manhattan skyscrapers and it measures about 3 meters in height. Due to its tall height, the sculpture rises up in the GA entry lobby. The sculpture was presented to the United Nations by Princess Desiree on behalf of her brother King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden.

King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden gave the gift to the United Nations. The gift was presented on his behalf by his sister Princess Desirae Baroness Silfverschiold from Sweden during her visit to New York in May 1991. Secretary-General Javier Perez de Cuellar accepted the gift on behalf of the United Nations.

The Permanent Representative of Sweden to the United Nations, Jan K. Eliasson, and the artist were present at the unveiling ceremony.
