The Traditional Furniture and Artifacts Exhibition is a gift from Oman consisting of various silver objects in six display cases, four decorative chests, and four chairs. Oman has updated the gift on other occasions over the years.  
 
Omani artisans are renowned for their skills in woodcarving, weaving, silver and goldsmithing, and manufacturing of swords and daggers. The artifacts displayed here show the talent and skill of the Omani people, and the great beauty of their handicraft.  
 
Among the artifacts is a sword similar to the khanjar, a traditional Omani dagger that appears on their flag and is still worn by Omani men during formal events.  
 
There is also an incense holder among the objects. In Oman incense is often burned at the end of a meal, notably frankincense, which is native to Oman.  

It was presented to the United Nations on September 19th in 1986, marking the 40th anniversary of the United Nations. The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of the Sultanate of Oman and His Excellency Mr. Yousef Tin Alawi Bin Abdullah presented the gift to Secretary-General Javier Perez De Cuellar who accepted it on behalf of the United Nations.  The gift is located in the large passage between the ECOSOC and Trusteeship Council Chambers, just before the entrance of the President of the General Assembly’s office
