Capacity Building

The capacity-building activities of the Office are tailored to suit specific contexts and participants, and to meet specific objectives. The Office conducts general training seminars for United Nations staff, representatives of government and civil society to promote greater awareness of the causes and processes of atrocity crimes, countering and addressing hate speech and building capacities for prevention, early warning and the assessment and management of information. Upon request for targeted technical assistance, the Office designs specific programs related to establishing or strengthening national or regional mechanisms for the prevention of genocide and other atrocity crimes, including in the field of early warning. In this context, the Office collaborates with other United Nations entities, as well as with Member States and civil society organisations, and supports national, regional and global networks of national focal points on genocide and atrocity prevention.
