Second Session of the Preparatory Committee for the 4th International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS4)

1 – 5 April 2024, UNHQ, New York, NY

 

Registration is open for accredited stakeholders! (For attendance on 1st April 2024)

 

The fourth International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS4) will be held from 27 to 30 May 2024 in St John’s, Antigua and Barbuda. Under the overarching theme of “Charting the course toward resilient prosperity". The Conference will aim at assessing the ability of SIDS to achieve sustainable development, including the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals. It will result in an intergovernmentally agreed, focused, forward-looking and action-oriented political outcome document.

 

Second Session of the SIDS4 Preparatory Committee (1-5 April 2024)

The Second Session of the SIDS4 Preparatory Committee will be held in the UNHQ, in New York, from 1 to 5 April 2024.

Accredited stakeholders can now register to attend the Second Session of the SIDS4 Preparatory Committee on 1st April 2024 (Plenary Meeting only).

NOTE: Representatives of accredited non-governmental organizations, major groups and other stakeholders will be able to observe the proceedings of the Second Meeting of the Preparatory Committee for the SIDS4 Conference on 1 April (10:00 – 1:00PM and 3:00 – 6:00PM) ONLY.

 

Who can attend the Second Session of the SIDS4 Preparatory Committee?

In-person participation of representatives from non-governmental organizations, major groups and other relevant stakeholders at the SIDS4 Conference is guided by General Assembly resolution A/RES/77/245 (Para 38, and Para 41) as well as by A/CONF.223/2024.PC.L1 (Annex II, Section III). 

Non-governmental organizations, major groups and other relevant stakeholder organizations that fall under the following categories will be able to request registration to attend the Second Session of the SIDS4 Preparatory Committee:   

 

  1. Representatives of NGOs in Consultative status with ECOSOC

Non-governmental organizations and major groups identified in Agenda 21 and other stakeholders in consultative status with ECOSOC. You can check if your organization has consultative status with ECOSOC here

  1. Representatives of organizations in consultative status with ECOSOC should request registration here: https://indico.un.org/event/1010124/

2. Representatives of specially accredited organizations

Organizations that were accredited to any of the previous United Nations’ conferences on the sustainable development of SIDS as well as those that received special accreditation to attend the SIDS4 Conference. Please, check the consolidated list here

Please note:

  • Each Organization will be able to register up to 5 (five) representatives. If more than 5 are registered under one organization, the Secretariat will approve registrations on a first-come first-served basis.
  • Please, check that you are registering your representatives through the appropriate link.
  • All submitted requests for registration will be reviewed and confirmation letters will be sent to approved participants. 
  • The deadline for registration is 26 March 2024 (12pm – noon, EDT).
  • Registered participants are responsible for any necessary arrangements related to their in-person participation, including travel, visa and others, as appropriate.

 

Written Inputs

Non-governmental organizations, major groups and other relevant stakeholders who have been accredited in accordance with General Assembly resolution A/RES/77/245 as well as by A/CONF.223/2024.PC.L1., can now submit written statements/inputs to the Second Session of the SIDS4 Preparatory Committee via a dedicated form by 5 April 2024.
